Code of Conduct
Guidelines for players and parents to ensure a positive basketball experience for everyone.
Player Expectations
Behavior at Practices
- Follow the CARE rules (Concentration, Attitude, Respect, Effort)
- Listen attentively when coaches are speaking
- Treat teammates with kindness and respect
- Share equipment and court space
- Help set up and clean up drills when asked
- Wear appropriate athletic clothing and shoes
Behavior at Games
- Show good sportsmanship to both teammates and opponents
- Follow referee instructions without argument
- Support teammates regardless of the score
- Win or lose with grace
- Represent Austin Wildcats with pride
- Stay with the team during the entire game
Parent Expectations
Supporting Your Child
- Ensure your child arrives on time to practices and games
- Provide appropriate equipment and attire
- Communicate with coaches about absences in advance
- Support and encourage your child's efforts, not just results
- Help reinforce CARE values at home
- Allow coaches to instruct without interference
Sideline Behavior
- Model good sportsmanship for all children
- Cheer positively for all players, not just your own child
- Refrain from coaching from the sidelines
- Never argue with referees, coaches, or other parents
- Keep comments positive and encouraging
- Address concerns privately with coaches, not during practices or games
Consequences
Austin Wildcats is committed to maintaining a positive environment for all participants. Violations of this code of conduct may result in:
- Verbal reminders about appropriate behavior
- Brief removal from practice activities
- Discussion with parents about behavior concerns
- In severe cases, temporary or permanent removal from the program
